Although these ideas have not yet been printed on hide or paper or the side of a tree, they remain bubbling inside the cranium of a mad genius... By harnessing the basic properties of nature with a pinch of magic, this alchemist wishes to personally advance his science beyond mere balms and bombs.
Completed Projects:
Black Powder:
Concocted centuries before and mundane in production, Black powder is a common ingredient in many of Argo's ballistic weapons. When destruction is the task at hand, a tightly packed cask of black powder does the trick. Although somewhat difficult to find in a medieval era, black market purchases and a broad wisdom of chemical components allow Argo to craft this stuff with ease, not to mention his daily miracle.
Ingredients:
Charcoal (Achieved from the burning of wood... obviously...)
Salt of Petra, AKA, Potassium Nitrate (Naturally found in crystallized form underground and most easily found as a precipitate of urine)
Brimstone, AKA, Sulfur (Found most easily by converting Pyrite, another common mineral)
Simple Grenade:
An ancient weapon with a reputably high bang-buck ratio, the simple grenade can be made out of many things. Typically consisting of a solid metal, stone, or clay shell packed with an igniter, normally black powder. Naturally other reagents, mundane or magical, add to the versatility of otherwise simple grenades, but the iron and gunpowder variety are much easier to make.
Astringent:
Always one to avoid the dangers of infection, Argo tends to carry one to three vials of different astringents at all times and often finds ways to create more. Although there are many natural astringents, such as alum, oatmeal, and bayberries, the most readily available component is ethanol in which a high proof version can be formed by converting crude alcohols with the use of a retort. Since alcohol is a very common sight in Garn, this is an easy, albeit costly, way to create capable astringents.
Basic Poison
Paracelsus, the founder of Toxicology once said, "All things are poison and nothing is without poison, only the dose permits something not to be poisonous"... Naturally Argo has a fairly easy time finding said sources of poison... From various harmful herbs to the venom from many, many creatures, basic poisons can be crafted... However only rare or magical reagents can grant increased poison capabilities.
Basic Antidote
Much to the surprise of many, one of the most effective antidotes to basic poisons is between fifty to a hundred grams of Activated Charcoal. Although somewhat difficult to attain, Argo knows well of this chemical recipe and plans to keep several vials just in case he or someone consumes a poison by mistake. Unfortunately, to treat the charcoal requires heavy heat sources and Calcium Chloride, which is processed readily from Limestone.
Incomplete Inventions:
Dragon's Blood
Being a master of explosives and a common user of fire, Argo has searched tirelessly for a solution that could fireproof his clothing so he will not catch on fire. Hidden in the world of Garn are tomes speaking of such a solution referred to as Dragon's Blood. Although not actually the blood of a Drake, this solution turns out to be Ammonium Phosphate, a rather tricky chemical which is crafted from Ammonia and Phosphoric acid, the later of which can be crafted from purifying Phosphorus. Due to the difficulty of the ingredients, it proves to be an immensely elusive tonic.
Deathcloud
For the most threatening of enemies, this carefully constructed grenade harnesses one of the most dangerous of natural gases, chlorine. By constructing a glass orb with a thin glass divider that would shatter on impact of the most fragile of terrain, letting the two reacting ingredients: Bleach and Vinegar combine and form an expanding cloud of hydrogen and chlorine. As the chlorine grows into a mighty cloud, it displaces the oxygen and causes caustic damages to organic lungs as well as vegetation and even metal. However the care required is tantamount, and the knowledge of such a compound is beyond Argo's grasp.
Ingredients:
-Bleach (Actually requires a dangerous amount of research... currently studying)
-Vinegar (Created from a reaction of alcohol to air, or spoiling alchohol)
-Glass
Requires a skilled Glassblower
Spark of Brilliance
-Picture... Hopefully coming soon-
Stuck in a backwards time without a butane lighter is tough, especially if your main means of combat are a plethora of explosive devices. Fortunately, Argo has come up with a plan to solve this little dilemma once and for all. By crafting a tough leather glove, flameproof when the means show themselves, and stitching steel on the middle finger and flint on the thumb, Argo can snap his fingers and create a small spark, enough to trigger one of his fuse bombs as well as spark a few more inventions in the future.
Ingredients:
Leather
Steel or Iron
Flint
Dragon's Blood (Optional)
Bulwark of Brilliance
In Argo's twisted little mind where everyone and anyone is out to get him, he figures that "his captors" expect him to strike at night like an assassin. Deciding to use the sun against his enemies, he researched sunlight and mirrors to create this suit of light armor. Crafted from fine silk, bleached a bright white and hopefully applied with some Dragon's Blood, this rather light and loose robe is combined with many flat mirrors, attached to the chest, arms, hips and so on, allowing for quick movement and quick opening (for Argo's grenades are under the robe), in addition to protection and an added blinding effect to his enemies. To add another injury to the list, when one of these mirrors are broken, the assailant will face the wrath of a particularly angry ghost, manifesting himself to heighten the superstition surrounding this strange artifact.
Ingredients:
Silk
Bleach
Glass
Silver (To craft the reflective surface)
Dragon's Blood (Optional)
Required: A skilled Tailor, glassblower, and Blacksmith
Dragon's Maw
Because of the common fear of dragons and their flame, Argo has crafted a device to harness that exact power. By using ingenuity and a bit of madness, this alchemist has crafted a portable flamethrower, attached to his arm, which, using a magical reagent, slowly inflates with gas over time and can suddenly be released with a trigger. By sparking, one can create a powerful and wild blast of flame for six seconds within one foot. Unfortunately, this item can only be used once per day and must be conserved at all times.
-Iron or Steel
-Ogre Skin (Naturally the hide of such a gassy creature would provide a suitable sac)
-Dragon's Blood (Required!)
-Requires a skilled blacksmith and a skilled engineer.
Training boots
-Also... picture will eventually be made... never-
As Argo advances himself and realizes his innate strength, he will begin fighting with his hands and feet in addition to his knife. His feet, in particular, have an impressive range and are further bolstered by these training boots. Made of solid pig iron, this hefty footwear has an inside mechanism that triggers with a switch in the sole. To further intensify Argo's emotions, on that trigger, sharp steel talons dig into the meat of his calves, keeping the boots on regardless of the centrifugal force. In addition, attached to the upper cap of the boots are sharp axeheads which deliver impressive pain upon delivery of the kick in addition to helping to secure ones footing in tough terrain. When an axe kick is required, a thin sharp spike protrudes from the back, giving Argo the satisfaction of a spear-like finisher.
Ingredients:
Pig Iron
Leather (For the inner part of the shoe)
Requires a skilled Blacksmith, Leatherworker, and Engineer.
White Noise Machine
((Still In Production))
Shall be introduced as time goes by
